It didn’t take long to know I didn’t belong…….I was different from other guys
A bat, a ball and a bottle of beer……..didn’t give me a rise
I had a passion to write old fashioned songs….from the soda pop and the Jukebox days
The words were gentle… still makes me sentimental
Every time some love song plays
CHORUS
So here I am-- I was born a man…. with a rose in my heart
Who knew that destiny-- would request of me --to play this part
For a rose has to bloom…..Or else it dies inside too soon
That’s how it goes ……when you’ve got a flower that grows
And you’re a man with a rose in your heart
Now I bring my guitar……..I sing in single’s bars
In folky, smoky dives
The ladies wait in line…. to hear these songs of mine
While the guys give me jealous eyes
The girls get pink.. when I flirt and wink…
You’d think that I was at the top of the charts
But it’s the words I sing…… that really gets ‘em ting a ling
To the bottom of their hearts
CHORUS
Let me tell ya ……No NFL fella
Takes time to smell the roses on the vine
It took some time to see………I’m more like FTD
I deliver every time
So here I am…….. just a man….. with a rose in my heart
I have found my song……..right where I belonged from the start
Watch me fly….Watch me soar……..
Watch me rain until I pour
That’s how it goes…….
When you’ve got a flower that grows
And you’re a man with the rose in your heart
That’s how it goes
When you’re a man with a rose in his heart
Songwriting Inspiration:
In grammar school, they called me Screwie Louie and Lou- Ass. I knew I would never fit in. As a kid I wasn’t interested in sports, cars or hanging around on street corners. I wanted to make the world beautiful.. and I wanted to do it with a song and dance. I started selling flowers from the cemetery dump, and the roses were always my favorite. So I began bringing any woman I knew, beautiful rose bouquets… to my teachers, old ladies, my relatives and my mother’s friends. Women always liked me because I was a sensitive new age kinda guy. I learned could be sweet and still be a man without having to flash my testosterone all over the place. So this is my autobiography in song
